False Confidence Fells Many Young Workers

Young workers frequently are out to prove themselves. Part of that bravado means coming across as though they know exactly what they are doing, when they might not.

If young workers aren’t encouraged to ask questions about workplace safety, they might think they will appear unintelligent by asking something that should be obvious.

Questions Young Workers Need to Ask Supervisors:

1. Will I be working with equipment or machinery that could put me at risk for injury?
2. If so, what safety training will I receive?
3. Will I need protective equipment such as safety shoes, a hardhat or safety glasses? If so, will it be provided to me or must I purchase it?
4. Who should I talk to if I don’t understand how to do something?
5. Who should I see if I am injured on the job?
