Worn-out Footwear Is Unsafe

You check the tires on your vehicle before taking a trip. Inspecting your safety footwear before you start your shift is just as wise. Good tires and good footwear are basic to safety.

Is your footwear in good enough shape to protect you from hazards? Does it fit well or are you in danger of stumbling when wearing it?

They may have soles that guard against electrical shocks or slipping.

Safety boots protect better than shoes against sparks or splashes.

The variety of boots includes:

• insulated electrical-hazard boots;
• nitrile or neoprene boots to guard against certain caustic or corrosive materials and petroleum products;
• welding boots that you can take off fast if sparks or other hazards get inside them.

Talk to your supervisor about the right kind of footwear for your job. Remember to take time regularly to inspect your protective footwear. If it’s worn out, give it the boot.
