Sound Advice On Hearing Protection
You need sound so you can experience your environment and communicate with others.
But too much sound can damage your hearing and leave you isolated. Excess noise can also cause fatigue, stress and irritability which can lead to workplace injuries.
Sound can damage your hearing in two ways. You can lose your hearing ability all at once from a loud noise such as an explosion or gunshot. The more common cause of work-related hearing loss is continual exposure to excess noise, causing gradual loss of hearing.
The preferred line of defense is noise reduction and other engineering solutions which lessen your exposure to noise.
Hearing loss may not sound like too serious a disability, but in fact it makes for a lonely life. Don’t take your hearing for granted — protect it for all its worth.
