Working Sober And Safe
If you think of a drug or alcohol abuser as some loser hanging around the street corners in a tough part of town, your information is out of date and inaccurate.
The fact is, most persons with substance abuse problems work at regular jobs – just like yours.
Even if the person is not visibly drunk or high, he or she is still presents a hazard to co-workers, customers and the public. The safe worker is one who is sober, well-rested, alert and focused on the job.
Avoid using medications which make you drowsy if you are going to drive, operate equipment or work in an environment where you need to be particularly alert. You have an obligation to report drug use which may impair your ability to work, so you can go home or be assigned to less safety-sensitive work.
Many tragic mistakes have been traced to misused drugs. If you can’t control your use of these substances, get help from your health care provider or a support group.
