Road Rage – Setting A Deadly Stage

Why is it that when you need to get somewhere fast, you always end up in a long line of cars waiting for an "okay" from a flag person?

It’s as if they knew you were in a hurry and decided to dig up a stretch of highway just to aggravate you.  What we seem to forget when we are pounding on the steering wheel, honking our horn, and screaming out the window is that road construction or any type of hold up on the highways are not targeted at us individually.  Acting like this however, can escalate into something more dangerous – road rage.

Let’s look at the statistics:

• Sixty per cent of those polled admitted to losing their tempers while driving
• A U.S. study focusing on only the most violent incidents logged 10,037 road rage incidents between 1990 and 1996
• Almost half of these incidents involved the use of firearms, clubs, knives and fists.  A total of 218 of these incidents resulted in murder
