Machines Don’t Have Rewind Buttons

Modern industrial equipment can process and shape materials with amazing speed and efficiency, but if workers attempt to bypass safety features or try to clear blockages on operating equipment, a machine cannot think for them. That’s what operators are paid to do.

Machine hazards include:

• Contact with moving parts
• Contact with electricity and other forms of energy
• Contact with harmful chemicals

Machine safety is such a vast area that it’s impossible to address all potential hazards in a short space, but the following tips could save your life:

• If you do not believe you have received adequate safety training to operate a machine with confidence, talk to your supervisor.
  
• Ensure you are provided with the correct PPE.
• Know how to shut down machinery in an emergency.

Machines don’t have rewind buttons. You can’t reverse a fatal mistake, so keep your brain in “drive.”
