Gas Monitoring a Vital Part of Confined Space Safety Measures
In many cases, workers have no idea that they are in a life-threatening situation because of low oxygen levels or the fact that certain deadly gases, such as carbon monoxide, are odorless. In other instances, poisonous gases may have an odor, but a worker exposed to them may be down and dead with the first breath in that toxic atmosphere.
Portable Gas Monitors Provide an Early Warning
Hand-held gas monitors are designed to provide an early warning of hazards such as low-oxygen, explosive gases or poisonous vapors. Unlike earlier models, which could be difficult to use, modern gas monitors are much simpler to operate and perform more functions.
Use it or Lose it
Like any other type of safety equipment, portable gas monitors need to be used before anyone sets foot in a confined space such as a manhole or vessel. If the monitor is sitting on the front seat of your work vehicle instead of in your hand, it won’t do you one bit of good.
