Reach For Ladder Safety

Ladders are a great invention.  They are low-tech solutions to reaching high places.  Make sure you use them safely.

Here are some tips for choosing and setting up a ladder:

• Make sure you use the right ladder for the job, and that it is the right size. 
• Check to be sure the ladder is in good condition and free of any damage or defects.

Here are some reminders about climbing a ladder safely:

• Check the weather conditions before you climb.  Avoid using a ladder in windy or wet weather or lightning storms.  Don’t climb a ladder in the dark.
• Keep your hands free so you can use them for climbing.  If you need tools, carry them in a tool belt. 

Use ladders when you need to reach high places.  Take the time to go and get a stepstool, stepladder, straight ladder or extension ladder instead of improvising a scaffold.
