Know Your Strengths And Your Limitations
You should be aware of the limits of lifting equipment. Forklifts, trucks, elevators, cranes, hoists, slings, rigging and lift devices powered by hydraulics, mechanics or electricity are rated for maximum loads. Even floors, ramps and bridges have load limits. To exceed the safe load capacity is to risk equipment failure, damage to materials and possible injury.
Always check the weights of objects to be moved to make sure they are in line with load limits.
There are other limits you should also be aware of to prevent injuries and illnesses. Safety regulations tell you how much of a certain chemical substance you can be exposed to without harm. This is important information in choosing and using Personal Protective Equipment and applying safe work practices around chemicals.
Know when to quit and when to say no. Knowing your own limitations is an important part of your safety sense.
