Knowing Your Way Out Certainly Beats No Way Out
Could you crawl to safety from your workstation? How confident are you that you could find your way to safety following an explosion or fire at your workplace? What if the smoke was so thick you couldn’t see? What if you weren’t working in your regular area of the building?
In a fire, fresh, cooler air is found near the ground, so drop on your hands and knees and crawl until you find the nearest exit that you previously memorized. Do not open an exit door that is hot to the touch. Try to find an alternate route or use a telephone to call the fire department to report your location in the building.
Close any doors between you and the fire and use clothing or anything at your disposal to seal cracks that would allow smoke to enter your area.
