Don’t Get Too Attached To Jewelry
Most people become so accustomed to wearing jewelry that they never think about taking it off. That is a mistake. If your job never brings you near moving machinery you may think you’re safe, but consider these examples of finger amputations not involving machine hazards:
While spray cleaning the engine compartment of an excavator a worker jumped from a narrow walk platform. He grabbed a foot traction grid on the way down. When he landed, he’d lost part of a finger. His ring had become caught in the grid.
A coast guard member was crossing between two boats. He grabbed a life ring on the way across and caught his wedding ring on a support bracket as he swung down. He landed with nine fingers.
It’s important that you keep your clothing tucked in and buttoned up, your hair tied back and your jewelry at home if there’s any possibility of entanglement.
