FYI: Texting While Driving is D-E-A-D-L-Y
A Nationwide Insurance Study found that nearly 20 percent of drivers either receive or send text messages on their cell phones while driving. If you are among them, consider that even during a three-second distraction, your car will have traveled 264 feet (80 meters) if you are driving at 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers an hour).
Some drivers whose cars have struck other vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians later admitted to being unable to grab the steering wheel in time, because their hands were on their cell phones. Others have even admitted to steering with their knees while texting.
There is no excuse for diverting your attention from a task as safety-sensitive as driving. If you must respond to a cell phone ring or vibration, pull over to do it!
