Horseplay Isn’t Funny
Fooling around on the job or horseplay happens in every workplace, from office settings to shop floors. It comes in many forms like elastic bands whizzing across the hall at unsuspecting targets or machine operators getting a big scare when someone walks up behind them and shouts “hey you!”
A number of studies have been conducted to find out why horseplay happens in the workplace. Some target boredom of employees and suggest that jobs get switched around or new tasks be added to them. Other studies suggest strict discipline and dismissal if horseplay persists. What do you think? Are you bored? Or do you like being the center of attention? Whatever the reason, if you are the “practical joker” on your crew you really should think about what you’re doing and how serious the consequences could be.
Don’t be the practical joker on your crew. A good laugh now and then is good for the soul, but hurting or causing embarrassment to someone just isn’t funny. Don’t jeopardize your job over an immature act of horseplay.
