Communicating Chemical Hazards

You have a right to know about chemical hazards in your workplace. Here are ways to obtain that information:

Chemicals are commonly used in the workplace. Some are hazardous to your health and safety. You have a right to know about the chemical hazards so you can protect yourself.

Always read the label on the container before using, storing or handling the chemical. The label tells you briefly:

• what the substance is
• what the safety and health hazards are
• how to protect yourself from chemical injury
• what to do in an emergency such as a spill, exposure or fire

Hazard Communication is a vital and necessary part of your safety program. Talk to your safety supervisor about it and find out where to look for the information you need.  It’s important for you to understand about the chemicals you can come in contact with everyday.
