Get Serious About Fall Arrest Equipment

Only the best will do when it comes to your fall protection equipment.  Anything less could fail in an emergency.

If you work at heights, you must be protected by equipment to prevent a fall or to stop a fall.

Fall prevention equipment includes barriers such as guardrails to prevent you from stepping off the work surface.  Fall arrest equipment is designed to stop a fall in progress.  Personal fall arrest equipment consists of a body harness, a lanyard, a lifeline and a secure anchorage point. 

When your life depends on personal fall arrest equipment, it makes sense to use exactly the right gear.  A body belt won’t do when a body harness is called for. 

Pay attention to your training about fall protection.  You need to know how to examine your gear for signs of wear or damage before each use and how to maintain it or prevent deterioration.  You must fasten and anchor it correctly each time.

Working at heights is no place to take shortcuts or use makeshift safety devices.  Use the correct gear and use it correctly.
