Flu Prevention: Protecting Yourself from Sick People Who Come to Work
Unless your workplace has a strict policy preventing people from coming to work when they have contagious illnesses, you will continue to be at risk for exposure. But that doesn’t mean it’s inevitable that you will pick up the flu.
The most important thing you can do is to wash your hands frequently throughout the day, doing so for at least 15 seconds using soap and warm water. Frequent hand washing is your best defense against the flu.
Think of the number of surfaces that a co-worker with the flu can touch or sneeze upon. If you touch the same surface and then rub your eyes or touch your nose or mouth, that person’s flu bug will be on an express elevator into your own body.
