Report Close Calls And Save A Life
This is an interesting picture. Art is working at his station when suddenly a bolt whizzes past his head, strikes his hardhat and keeps going. If this were to happen to you, what would you do? Many workers would likely shrug their shoulders and think “Whew! That was a close one! Good thing I was wearing my hardhat,” and then get back to work.
In one way that would be a correct thought. Wearing a hardhat did prevent a more serious accident. But what about where the machine bolt came whizzing from, and what about the machine operator?
This picture depicts a classic example of a near miss incident or a “close call.” An incident like this one is a warning signal for everyone involved to investigate what happened and why. That bolt is telling the operator there is something wrong with his machine and it should be investigated before a more serious incident occurs – an accident that could take a life.
